Example of situation with conduction, convection, and radiation

thermodynamics

I am studying heat transfer and have learned there are three kinds of heat transfer: conduction, convection, and radiation. Some examples are:

Conduction:

Touching a stove and being burned

Ice cooling down your hand

Boiling water by thrusting a red-hot piece of iron into it

Convection:

Hot air rising, cooling, and falling (convection currents)

An old-fashioned radiator (creates a convection cell in a room by emitting warm air at the top and drawing in cool air at the bottom).

Radiation:

Heat from the sun warming your face

Heat from a lightbulb

Heat from a fire

Heat from anything else which is warmer than its surroundings.

I have heard that for a vacuum flask all three types are important. Are there other examples where all three are important?

Conduction: 1. When a metal spoon is placed in a hot cup of coffee, the heat from the coffee is conducted through the metal spoon and warms up the handle. 2. When you touch a cold window, the heat from your hand is conducted through the glass and warms up the area you are touching. 3. When a pot of water is placed on a hot stove, the heat from the stove is conducted through the bottom of the pot and heats up the water inside.

Convection: 1. When a pot of soup is heated on the stove, the hot liquid at the bottom of the pot rises, while the cooler liquid at the top sinks. This creates a convection current that helps to evenly heat the soup. 2. Warm air rising from a heater or radiator and circulating around the room is an example of convection. 3. Ocean currents are also an example of convection, as warm water moves from the equator towards the poles, while cooler water moves from the poles towards the equator.

Radiation: 1. The sun radiates heat and light, which travels through the vacuum of space and warms the Earth. 2. A person sitting by a campfire feels warm because they are absorbing the heat radiating from the fire. 3. A microwave oven cooks food using radiation, as the microwave radiation heats up the water molecules in the food.
