Problem Analysis

We are given two experimental plots where tulips were planted. The first plot had 960 bulbs, while the second plot had 640 bulbs. The number of bulbs planted per square meter was the same for both plots. The area of the first plot was 20 square meters larger than the area of the second plot. We need to find the area of each plot.

Solution

Let's assume that the number of bulbs planted per square meter is x.

From the given information, we can set up the following equations:

Equation 1: Number of bulbs in the first plot = 960 Equation 2: Number of bulbs in the second plot = 640 Equation 3: Area of the first plot = Area of the second plot + 20

To solve this system of equations, we can use substitution.

From Equation 1, we can write: Number of bulbs in the first plot = x * Area of the first plot

From Equation 2, we can write: Number of bulbs in the second plot = x * Area of the second plot

Substituting these expressions into Equation 3, we get: x * Area of the first plot = x * Area of the second plot + 20

Simplifying the equation, we have: Area of the first plot - Area of the second plot = 20

Now, we can solve this equation to find the value of the difference in areas.

Let's solve the equation step by step:

Area of the first plot - Area of the second plot = 20

Let's assume the area of the second plot is y.

Area of the first plot = y + 20

Substituting this value back into the equation:

(y + 20) - y = 20

Simplifying the equation:

20 = 20

This equation is true for any value of y. Therefore, the difference in areas can be any value as long as the equation is satisfied.

Hence, we cannot determine the exact area of each plot based on the given information. The difference in areas is 20 square meters, but the individual areas could be any value as long as the difference is maintained.

Answer: The exact area of each plot cannot be determined based on the given information. The difference in areas is 20 square meters, but the individual areas could be any value as long as the difference is maintained.
