Difference Between GDP and GNP
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Gross National Product (GNP) are both measures of a country's economic performance, but they differ in their scope and what they measure.
GDP measures the total economic output within a country's borders, regardless of who owns the means of production. On the other hand, GNP measures the total economic output produced by a country's residents, regardless of where they are located.
The key quantitative difference between GDP and GNP lies in how they account for income earned from foreign investments. GNP includes the income earned by residents from investments made abroad, while GDP does not include this income.
This means that GNP is generally higher than GDP for countries that receive a lot of income from foreign investments, and lower for countries with significant foreign investments in their own economy.
