People keep pets for different reasons. Most often people need companions, others keep dogs for protection or hunting. Sometimes parents give their children pets to teach kids responsibility.

The most popular pets in big cities are dogs and cats. I think a bit less popular  pets are parrots, fish, hamsters and mice. All these animals aren't as big as horses and they are easier to be looked after.

I believe having pets is a big responsibility. We must take care of their health, food, training, walking and playing with them. All these activities take a lot of time and commitment and have to be done every day. As Antoine de Saint-Exupéry wrote: “You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.”
