Alexander Pushkin, widely regarded as the greatest Russian poet and the founder of modern Russian literature, was born on June 6, 1799, in Moscow, Russia. He came from a noble family, with his father being a retired lieutenant colonel and his mother coming from a prominent noble lineage. From an early age, Pushkin displayed a talent for writing poetry and storytelling, and he published his first poem at the age of 15. He studied at the Imperial Lyceum in Tsarskoye Selo, where he further developed his literary skills and became acquainted with the works of European authors. Pushkin's writing often tackled themes of love, freedom, and Russian history, and his works, including his famous novel in verse "Eugene Onegin," earned him widespread recognition and popularity. Despite his immense literary success, Pushkin faced political and social censorship due to his outspoken views, which ultimately led to his exile from St. Petersburg in 1820. During his time in exile, Pushkin continued to write and produced some of his most celebrated works. Unfortunately, his life was cut short when he died at the age of 37 on February 10, 1837, following a duel with his wife's alleged lover. Despite his untimely death, Pushkin's legacy lives on through his poetry, which remains an integral part of Russian literary and cultural heritage.
