Начну с того, что книги про Мэри крайне неоднозначны и гораздо глубже, чем просто хорошая детская литература.
Ну, конечно, на поверхности — приключения подопечных необыкновенной няни. Но копнем глубже — взаимоотношение героев чисто английские. Вспомните земляка и по большому счету коллегу Мэри, Дживса — они очень похожи, но только Мэри заставляет детишек своим умом доходить до понимания "что такое хорошо, и что такое плохо". Дживс же сам все делает за Вустера, таким образом просто поддерживая лень и бестолковость хозяина. Иными словами — Дживс кормит голодного рыбой, тогда как Мэри учит своих воспитанников рыбу ловить, чтобы всегда суметь прокормиться самому.
