Двумя потоками — через Перекоп и с Таманского полуострова через нынешний Керченский пролив — гунны обрушились на Боспорское царство в Крыму. Его города были взяты штурмом и разграблены. Просуществовавшее более тысячи лет Боспорское царство погибло, чтобы никогда не возродиться.
Затем наступила очередь германских племен — готов, живших к западу и северо-западу от алан. Вестготы бежали на Дунай, остготы — разбиты. Их король, стодесятилетний Эрманарих, не перенеся позора поражения, покончил самоубийством.
