С другой - почти полное отсутствие аналитического материала, разрозненные факты судебной палаты по информационным спорам при Президенте РФ о деятельности отдельных средств массовой информации, изредка встречающиеся в печати, затрудняют поиск достоверных данных. Сложности, однако, подстерегают исследователя и в других, подчас неожиданных направлениях. Прежние теоретические концепции, объяснявшие функционирование средств массовой информации в советском обществе, рухнули вместе с исчезновением самой системы. Дать теоретическое обоснование деятельности СМИ в современной России, исходя из какой-либо теоретической концепции, невозможно хотя бы потому, что такой концепции вообще не существует. Нет пока еще и глубоких философских исследований того, что же случилось с российской прессой после начала периода гласности и распада Советского Союза.
