God gave language to people for communication. For a while there was one language, and it served its purpose. Later when the mankind decided to build the Tower of Babel, God got angry, and made people speak different languages. At first it seemed to be bad, but in fact it was a chance to study different languages.
«How many languages you know - that many times you are a person», ancient wise men said. And it is so, for command of other languages, along with one`s native language, gives the chance not only to get acquainted with the culture of different nations, but also to learn more deeply the beauty and uniqueness of one`s own heritage. And all this makes a person`s life richer and more brightly coloured.
Today English is one of the most widespread languages of our Universe. There is no airport or a flight service, technology or sports in the world that isn`t dominated by English. It is also the universal language of the Internet as the majority of electronic books and information can be found in this language.
Why do I study English language? For me this question has several answers and each of them is important to me. I want to learn English to visit those places of the United Kingdom where films of my idol, Harry Potter, were shot.
I plan to study at a foreign university, and the majority of educational institutions admit foreign students on the basis of English proficiency. And the abundant majority of educational information is in English, so the knowledge of this language is necessary for me.
These are my ambitious plans. Now my knowledge of English allows me to have friends abroad, but tomorrow I will need to know English better to find friends on a professional level, to get acquainted with culture and history of their countries. And I will be happy to open my world, my ancient native land to them. Having studied English, I will be able to read my favourite books in the original, to attend film screenings without translation, to understand TV and radio programs in authentic

The English language is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. It belongs to the Germanic branch of the Indo-European language family and is primarily spoken in the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. It is also widely used as a second language in many other countries, making it an essential skill for global communication.
The history of the English language can be traced back to the 5th century when Germanic tribes, including the Angles, Saxons, and Jutes, invaded what is now England. These tribes brought with them their own languages, which eventually merged to form Old English. Old English is almost unrecognizable to a modern English speaker, with its complex grammar and vocabulary heavily influenced by the Germanic languages.
In the 11th century, the Norman Conquest brought French-speaking Normans to England, resulting in the introduction of a significant number of French words into the English vocabulary. This period, known as Middle English, saw the emergence of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales and marked a transformation in the English language.
The influence of Latin came in the late Middle Ages when the Church and scholars used Latin as the language of learning and religion. Latin words gradually made their way into English, particularly in the fields of science, law, and medicine. This period, known as Early Modern English, also saw the standardization of spelling and grammar rules.
As England expanded its colonial empire in the 17th and 18th centuries, the English language spread to new territories and evolved further. British English and American English began to diverge in terms of pronunciation, vocabulary, and usage. This divergence continues to this day, with variations of English spoken in different regions around the world, including Australian English, Canadian English, and New Zealand English.
The English language has become a lingua franca of sorts, serving as a global means of communication in various domains like business, science, technology, and tourism. It is the language of international diplomacy and is widely taught as a second language in schools and universities worldwide.
English has also become the language of the internet, with a significant majority of online content being in English. This dominance has further contributed to the spread and influence of the language.
In conclusion, the English language has a rich and complex history, influenced by various languages and cultures over time. Its global usage and importance make it a valuable skill for individuals in today's interconnected world.
