Once upon a time there was a prince who wanted to marry a princess; but she would have to be a real princess. He travelled all over the world to find one, but nowhere could he get what he wanted. There were princesses enough, but it was difficult to find out whether they were real ones. There was always something about them that was not as it should be. So he came home again and was sad, for he would have liked very much to have a real princess.
One evening a terrible storm came on; there was thunder and lightning, and the rain poured down in torrents. Suddenly a knocking was heard at the city gate, and the old king went to open it.
It was a princess standing out there in front of the gate. But, good gracious! what a sight the rain and the wind had made her look. The water ran down from her hair and clothes; it ran down into the toes of her shoes and out again at the heels. And yet she said that she was a real princess.
Well, we'll soon find that out, thought the old queen. But she said nothing, went into the bed-room, took all the bedding off the bedstead, and laid a pea on the bottom; then she took twenty mattresses and laid them on the pea, and then twenty eider-down beds on top of the mattresses.
On this the princess had to lie all night. In the morning she was asked how she had slept.
"Oh, very badly!" said she. "I have scarcely closed my eyes all night. Heaven only knows what was in the bed, but I was lying on something hard, so that I am black and blue all over my body. It's horrible!"
Now they knew that she was a real princess because she had felt the pea right through the twenty mattresses and the twenty eider-down beds.
Nobody but a real princess could be as sensitive as that.
So the prince took her for his wife, for now he knew that he had a real princess; and the pea was put in the museum, where it may still be seen, if no one has stolen it.
There, that is a true story.

Once upon a time, in a small village nestled between lush green hills, there lived a kind-hearted woodcutter named Jack. Jack was a simple man with a big heart, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. He lived in a small cottage with his elderly mother, who was wise and loving.
One fine morning, as the sun painted the sky with hues of pink and gold, Jack set out into the forest to gather firewood. As he swung his axe, he heard a faint whimper coming from behind a bush. Curious, he went to investigate and found a tiny injured bird. It was a beautiful fairy creature with shimmering wings.
Feeling pity for the poor creature, Jack gently picked up the injured bird and took it home. He carefully tended to its wounds, feeding it with tiny drops of honey and fresh water. As days passed, the bird started to recover, and to Jack's amazement, it began to talk.
The bird introduced itself as Aurora, the Fairy of the Forest. She thanked Jack for his kindness and promised to grant him a wish in return for saving her life. Jack was taken aback but humble, he replied, "Oh, dear Aurora, I am just a simple woodcutter with no grand desires. All I wish for is the happiness and well-being of my dear mother."
Touched by Jack's selfless nature, Aurora smiled and granted his wish. From that day on, Jack and his mother never faced scarcity or sadness. The firewood he chopped miraculously multiplied, and the forest provided them with abundant fruits and berries.
One day, news of Jack's good fortune reached the ears of a greedy and envious neighbor named Tom. Tom was filled with jealousy and decided to seek out the same fairy creature to fulfill his desires for riches and power.
Ignoring the warnings of others, Tom ventured into the forest, determined to find Aurora. But his heart was tainted with selfishness and greed, which the fairy could sense. When he finally encountered Aurora, he demanded, "Fairy, I want all the wealth and influence in the world!"
Aurora frowned, knowing the darkness that lurked within Tom's heart. She refused to grant his wish and warned him of the consequences of seeking power without compassion and kindness. Ignoring her words, Tom persisted and tried to capture the fairy.
However, the forest, which was under Aurora's protection, turned against Tom. The trees blocked his path, the earth shook beneath him, and he found himself lost in the woods. Frightened and humbled, Tom finally realized the error of his ways. He begged for forgiveness and vowed to change his selfish nature.
Aurora, recognizing the sincerity in Tom's words, decided to give him a chance to redeem himself. She asked him to perform acts of kindness and help others without seeking anything in return. As Tom embarked on his journey of transformation, the forest slowly accepted him, and he became a changed man.
From that day forward, Tom joined Jack in helping the villagers, and together, they made the small village a better place. Jack's act of kindness had not only saved Aurora but had also helped to mend the heart of a selfish man.
And so, the story of the woodcutter, the fairy, and the transformation of a greedy heart became a timeless tale of the power of kindness and the beauty of selflessness, reminding everyone that the truest treasures lie within the goodness of one's heart.
