In a new report that has raised eyebrows worldwide, researchers have questioned the age-old tradition of long summer breaks for students. While these extended vacations have always been seen as a time for students to relax and recharge, the study has revealed a different, and perhaps more stressful, reality.

On average, students enjoy a whopping 12-week break from school during the summer months. However, what the researchers discovered may come as a surprise to many. It turns out that, contrary to popular belief, students are actually unable to fully relax during this lengthy hiatus. A staggering 78 per cent of students reported feeling extremely hard-pressed to complete their assignments, projects, and summer reading lists before the new school year begins.

This finding raises an important question: does a long summer break really mean a relaxed summer for students? The global discussion on the matter has just begun, and educators and policymakers are now challenged to rethink the structure of the academic calendar to ensure students can truly enjoy a well-deserved break without the stress of impending deadlines.
