My last holiday was a five-day trip to Prague in the Czech Republic. I know Prague well because I lived there when I was at university, more than ten years ago.

Instead of staying in a hotel, I stayed with one of my old friends. It was so much fun, and a little bit like my old life. I wanted to do all the same things I did in my university days, so I visited the university. It has changed a lot and looks more modern. I also went to the supermarket near my old house. I loved seeing all the different foods. I was really happy to find my favourite cheese and chocolate biscuits but they were a bit more expensive than I remember!

We did some touristy things too. We walked up beautiful Petrin Hill and around the castle. The views of the city are amazing up there. We walked across the historic Charles Bridge. My friend's flat is very near the TV Tower so we saw the famous baby statues climbing up it. Those things haven't changed, of course.

Friday evening marked the start of this terrible weekend. I had been looking forward to a relaxing night at home, but as soon as I got there, the power went out due to a severe storm. The darkness, combined with the sweltering heat, made for an uncomfortable and restless night. I spent hours fumbling in the dark, trying to find candles and flashlights, all the while sweating profusely.

The next morning, I woke up to find that my car wouldn't start, and I had important errands to run. I had to resort to taking public transportation, which was delayed and overcrowded. My frustration grew as I navigated through the chaos, missing important appointments and wasting a significant portion of my day.

On Sunday, I had plans to meet up with friends for a long-awaited outdoor picnic. However, the weather had other plans, and an unexpected downpour forced us to cancel our gathering. We were all disappointed and ended up spending the day indoors, bored and feeling cooped up.

As if things couldn't get any worse, I received a phone call on Sunday evening with news that my pet had fallen ill. I had to rush to the veterinary clinic, where I spent the night anxiously waiting for test results and worrying about the well-being of my beloved furry companion.

By the time Monday morning rolled around, I felt physically and emotionally drained, my plans thwarted, my patience tested, and my enthusiasm crushed. It was a terrible weekend filled with power outages, transportation mishaps, canceled plans, and the added worry of a sick pet. I was relieved when the weekend was finally over and hoped that the coming week would bring a much-needed change of fortune.
