Nowadays, some people think that youth organisations are not very significant. I must say I totally disagree with the statement. While it’s true that most of them do not have a direct impact to the world, they definitely play a large role in a young person’s development and their character formation. For example, the first youth organisation that comes to mind is the Scout Movement. Young scouts spend time doing various outdoor activities learning important life skills and making friends for life. They also have an amazing experience that can build their character and influence who they are as people. It is even hard to say that this particular organisation is not so important for the society as a study found that there was strong link between being a scout as a child and having significantly better mental health. Now one might argue that this is only true for the Scout Movement, however, the same also goes for other youth organisations, it is just that they all have different purposes and help with different things. For example, there is a Camp Fire organisation that is quite similar to the Scout Movement, and there are also ONE Youth Ambassadors - young volunteers who raise money to help people lift themselves out of extreme poverty, which definitely makes a huge impact on the world; World Youth Alliance promotes human rights, global health and education, and organises training programs, global campaigns and internships; Eurodesk offers young people information about international learning opportunities and learning mobility; and BBYO helps Jewish teens build their identity. So, all in all, I strongly believe that youth organisations really make a difference to the world and that is why I cannot agree that they do not matter.
