Sergei Yesenin (also spelled Esenin) was a Russian poet born on October 3, 1895, in Konstantinovo, a small village in western Russia. He grew up in poverty and began working as a shepherd at a young age. However, he had a talent for writing poetry, and his work soon gained recognition.

In 1915, Yesenin moved to Moscow, where he became involved with the Symbolist movement and befriended several prominent poets, including Nikolai Klyuev and Maximilian Voloshin. He published his first book of poetry, "Radunitsa" (The Feast of Resurrection), in 1916, and it was well received.

During the Russian Revolution of 1917, Yesenin became disillusioned with the Bolsheviks and their policies, and his poetry began to reflect his feelings of loss and despair. In 1921, he married the American dancer Isadora Duncan, but their marriage was troubled, and they divorced the following year.

Yesenin's poetry continued to gain popularity, and he became one of the most beloved poets of the Soviet era. However, he also struggled with alcoholism and depression, and his personal life was tumultuous. He was briefly committed to a psychiatric hospital in 1923, and in 1925, he was arrested for hooliganism and spent several months in prison.

On December 28, 1925, Yesenin was found dead in his hotel room in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). He had hanged himself with a belt, and his body bore signs of severe alcohol abuse. His death was widely mourned, and he is still remembered as one of Russia's greatest poets.
