What is a Quasar in Space?
A quasar is a celestial object that is extremely luminous and distant. It stands for "quasi-stellar radio source" and is characterized by its high redshift, indicating its large distance from Earth. Quasars are believed to be powered by supermassive black holes at the centers of young galaxies. These black holes are surrounded by a disk of hot, glowing gas, which emits intense radiation as it falls into the black hole. Quasars are among the brightest and most energetic objects in the universe, often outshining the total light output of their host galaxies.
Quasars were first discovered in the late 1950s and have since been the subject of extensive study and observation. They provide valuable insights into the early universe, the formation and evolution of galaxies, and the behavior of supermassive black holes.
