X^A X^a  x    X^A Y

Разделение: {X^A X^A} - 1 часть мёртвых {X^A Y; X^A X^a} - 2 части различных шерстяных {X^a Y}- 1 часть лысых

Вывод: Гомозиготы по доминантному признаку не жизнеспособны

Решение: скрещивать только лысых котов

Understanding the Issue

The club of exotic cat lovers is seeking urgent help regarding a problem they have encountered while breeding short-haired cats. After successfully breeding a breed of cats without fur, they noticed that a portion of the kittens born from the crossbreeding are born without fur, another portion has fur of varying lengths, and unfortunately, a portion of the kittens are always born dead. The club members are unable to explain this phenomenon and are seeking assistance in determining the cause of the kitten mortality and advice on how to address this issue.

Possible Causes of Kitten Mortality

The mortality of kittens in this breeding program could be attributed to various factors. It is important to note that without further information or a thorough examination, it is difficult to pinpoint the exact cause. However, based on general knowledge, the following factors could potentially contribute to the mortality of kittens:

1. Genetic Factors: The breeding program may have inadvertently introduced genetic abnormalities that result in the death of some kittens. Genetic disorders can manifest in various ways, including stillbirths or early neonatal deaths. It is possible that the absence of fur in some kittens and the mortality rate are linked to specific genetic mutations or abnormalities [[1]].

2. Environmental Factors: The environment in which the kittens are born and raised can significantly impact their health and survival. Factors such as temperature, humidity, cleanliness, and exposure to pathogens or toxins can affect the well-being of newborn kittens. It is crucial to ensure that the breeding environment is optimal for the health and survival of the kittens [[2]].

3. Maternal Health and Care: The health and care provided by the mother cat (queen) during pregnancy and after birth can influence the survival of the kittens. Maternal factors such as nutritional deficiencies, infections, stress, or inadequate care can contribute to stillbirths or neonatal deaths. It is essential to assess the health and well-being of the mother cat and provide appropriate care during pregnancy and lactation [[3]].

Recommendations for Addressing the Issue

To address the issue of kitten mortality and improve the breeding program, the club members can consider the following recommendations:

1. Consultation with a Veterinarian: It is highly recommended to consult with a veterinarian who specializes in feline health and reproduction. A veterinarian can conduct a thorough examination of the breeding program, assess the health of the cats involved, and provide specific guidance based on their expertise and diagnostic tests [[4]].

2. Genetic Testing: Genetic testing can help identify any underlying genetic abnormalities or mutations that may be contributing to the mortality of the kittens. By identifying these genetic factors, breeders can make informed decisions about future breeding pairs and potentially reduce the occurrence of stillbirths or neonatal deaths [[5]].

3. Optimize Breeding Environment: Ensuring that the breeding environment is clean, well-maintained, and free from potential hazards is crucial for the health and survival of the kittens. Maintaining appropriate temperature, humidity, and ventilation, as well as implementing strict hygiene practices, can help minimize the risk of infections and improve overall kitten health [[6]].

4. Nutritional Support: Providing the mother cat with a balanced and nutritious diet during pregnancy and lactation is essential for the health of the kittens. Consultation with a veterinarian can help determine the appropriate diet and nutritional supplements, if necessary, to support the mother cat's health and the development of healthy kittens [[7]].

5. Monitoring and Early Intervention: Regular monitoring of the pregnant queen and the kittens after birth is crucial. Prompt intervention in case of any signs of distress, illness, or abnormalities can help improve the chances of survival. It is important to have a plan in place for emergency situations and to seek veterinary assistance whenever necessary [[8]].

Remember, these recommendations are general in nature, and it is important to consult with a veterinarian who can provide personalized advice based on the specific circumstances of the breeding program and the health of the cats involved.

I hope this information helps the club members understand the potential causes of kitten mortality and provides some guidance on addressing this issue.
