Благодаря животным человек получает разнообразные продукты питания: сливочное масло, молоко, сыр, мед и множество других. Животные поставляют и сырье для промышленности: шерсть, пух, кожу, воск, из пчелиного яда изготавливают разнообразные лекарства.

Для того чтобы постоянно иметь продукты питания и необходимое сырье для производства одежды, а также для охраны жилья и запасов зерна, человек еще с давних времен приручил собаку, кошку, лошадь, быка, козу, овцу, утку, гуся и других животных. Вследствие длительной селекции появилось множество пород домашних животных.

Порода — группа животных одного вида, искусственно созданная человеком.

Порода животных характеризуется определенными наследствен­ными особенностями строения, жизненных функций и т.д.

Хищные (например, насекомых — наездников, жуков божьих ко­ровок, хищных клещей) и паразитические виды животных человек использует для ограничения численности вредителей сельскохозяй­ственных растений. Их искусственно разводят в специальных лабо­раториях и затем выпускают на поля и огороды. Это биологический метод борьбы с насекомыми-вредителями.
