Чередование бер/бир, мер/мир, тер/тир и их огромное множество пишутся так :
Если в слове суффикс А то следовательно мы пишем букву И , то есть А - И
Если нет суффикса А, а какой-то другой, мы ставим букву Е, то есть Другой суффикс - Е
Чередование ЛАГ/лож
Раст///ращ//рос
Перед буквами СТ , Щ - пишем А
В других случаях О
Исключения : Ростов, Ростислав, росток, отрасль, ростовщик
