С уличными мальчишками я до вечера играл в стукалку. Отец дал мне немного денег, чтобы купить книг, на эти-то деньги я и играл. Позабыв всё на свете. Деньги, конечно, вскоре кончились, я стал думать, где бы достать ещё, и нашёл выход. Я стал обходить все дома в ауле. Я говорил, что завтра приезжают пехлеваны и вот мне поручили собирать для них деньги. Обойдя аул, я подсчитал выручку и понял, что можно продолжать игру. Но и этих несчастных денег не хватило надолго. К тому же во время игры приходилось ползать по земле на коленях. За целый день мои штаны продрались насквозь, а колени исцарапались. Между тем дома меня хватились. Старшие братья пошли искать меня по всему аулу. И вот я предстал перед судом отца. Больше всего на свете я боялся этого суда. Отец оглядел меня с головы до ног. - Расскажи-ка, где ты порвал штаны. - В школе…зацепил за гвоздь… - Когда? - Сегодня. Отец наотмашь ударил меня ладонью по щеке. - Если сейчас же не расскажешь всё, как было, ударю плетью.
