Пошалить Ваня всегда любил: то дернет за косичку соседку Машку, то доску мылом натрет. Баловался на уроках он постоянно: учителя только за голову хватались. 
Однажды Вита Семеновна, учительница украинского языка, заболела. На замену пришел Александр Павлович–молодой преподаватель с забавными усами. Стоило ему войти в класс, как Ваня прошептал соседу по парте, Павлику:"Сейчас мы ему покажем!". Павлик рассмелся, а Ваня дернул за веревочку: галстук Александра Павловича оказался весь в чернилах. Но учитель и усом не повел: сел себе на стул (на который Ваня подложил кнопку) и провел урок до конца. 
Позже Александр Павлович попросил Ваню остаться после уроков. С замиранием сердца проказник вошел в кабинет. Но учитель не стал ругаться. Он рассказал, как сам дурачился на уроках, проказничал и шалил в школе, и к чему его это привело: одноклассники перестали с ним разговаривать, а учителя не любили. 
С той поры Ваня крепко задумался, взялся за ум и шалить перестал.
