Прежде чем на Земле появился человек разумный, природа миллионы лет наполняла свои сокровищницы. Создавала атмосферу, чистейшие озера и реки, зеленые леса. Всему этому нужен был добрый и рачительный хозяин. И он появился. Но, увы! Очень быстро человек стал относиться к природным закромам как к естественной и неиссякаемой базе.

Сегодня ученые прогнозируют истощение невосполнимых природных ресурсов и критическое состояние земли, воды и воздуха. Все это происходит потому, что добывая природные богатства, человек не заботится об окружающем мире. Нефть, поднятая со дна шельфа океанов, разливается при добыче и перевозке, губя флору и фауну водных просторов. Угольные и минеральные бассейны уродуют землю, требуют строительства дорог и хранилищ, под которые часто вырубаются леса. Добыча и переработка металлов загрязняет окрестности отходами и выбросами плавильных установок. Заготовка лесов, охота и ловля рыбы ведутся варварскими способами. Истощаются земли, измученные многолетними посадками.

В деле добычи ресурсов царит жажда наживы, желание ухватить побольше. Сегодня никто не заботится о рекреации вырубленных лесов, восстановление популяций животных мизерно в сравнении с потерями. Забрасываются обедневшие почвы, распахиваются новые угодья. Мы потребляем и производим. Вместо того чтобы внедрять экологичные технологии, используем устаревшие, энергоемкие и небезопасные. Огромное количество отходов добычи и производства убивает оболочки планеты. Порою мне кажется, что человечество уже нашло новую планету, которую можно будет вновь разграбить, отбросив опустевшую и почерневшую Землю.

Человечество должно задуматься над двумя вопросами: что делать? и как делать? Тот подход к добыче ресурсов, который существует сейчас, губителен для всего живого. На защиту планеты должны встать наука, экономия, совесть и любовь.
