Жил в Канаде один рыбак по имени Ким. Всю выловленную рыбу он отдавал соседу-богачу, который за рыбу давал ему всего лишь маленькую тарелку риса.
И вот однажды бедняк решил: "Наловлю-ка я сегодня столько рыбы, что богач даст мне бочку риса. Вот тогда я наконец-то наемся".
Весь день ловил рыбу Ким. Очень устал. Решил Ким отдохнуть, и только потом идти к богачу. Спал он, спал, а когда проснулся, увидел, что ни риса, ни рыбы нет. Но на крыльце лежала записка: "Спасибо за рыбу. Теперь ты будешь богат и ни в чем не нуждаться. Но запомни!!! Однажды в дом твой придет Ято и заберет счастье!"
"Что за глупость?"-подумал Ким. Пойду я лучше рыбу ловить. Весь день ловил рыбу Ким. Очень устал. Решил Ким отдохнуть, и только потом идти к богачу. Спал он, спал, а когда проснулся, увидел, что лежит он не в своей лачужке, а в богатом доме! Вспомнил рыбак, что было написано в той записке, и обрадовался. Вот так жил он 14 лет, не зная печали. Однажды, выйдя на крыльцо, Ким увидел корзинку с маленьким мальчиком. Рядом лежала записка: "Это мальчик. Его имя-Ято. Приютите его."
Вспомнил Ким предыдущую записку и очень испугался. Оставил он на пороге мальчика: взять в дом-счастье отнимет, не взять-малыша убить.
Внезапно начался ливень, и малыш заплакал. Вздохнул рыбак, и оставил Ято. Вскоре мальчик вырос, женился, родил детей, внуков, правнуков. И понял Ким-счастье и вправду не его, а всех его потомков.
