Evaluation of the Composition "Taras Bulba" by Nikolai Gogol
The composition "Taras Bulba" by Nikolai Gogol portrays the main character, Taras Bulba, as embodying the finest qualities of the heroic era. His portrait reflects bravery, courage, and a deep-seated hatred towards enemies. Taras was not destined for a peaceful life; he was an old warrior ready to sacrifice his life for his homeland. It was after his impassioned speech that the Zaporozhian Cossacks decided to embark on a campaign and seek revenge against the Polish gentry. Taras had two sons, Ostap and Andriy, and he desired for them to become hardened warriors like himself. However, things did not unfold as Taras had envisioned. Ostap was captured and executed, while Andriy betrayed his homeland, leading to his own demise at the hands of Taras. When Taras himself was captured, he did not attempt to escape, hoping only that his warriors would successfully break out of the encirclement and survive. Losing both of his sons, the closest people to him, left the old soldier with nothing else but a heroic death. Taras Bulba considered loving the homeland, being faithful to his land and his people, as the most important things in life.
