Айвенго описаний автором як майже iдеальний романтичний герой, уособлення усіх чеснот лицарства. Айвенго – благородний молодий лицар, син саксонського дворянина Седріка Сакса. Брав участь у III хрестового поході, є сподвижником другом короля Річарда Левове Серце. Айвенго дуже вірний – і своєму коханню (не погодився зрадити свою любов, за що батько його вигнав і позбавив спадщини), і королю (Айвенго, вступивши до його війська, віддано служив йому). Навіть у важких ситуаціях, Айвенго не зраджує короля, кохану, друзів.

Образ Бріана де Буагільбера у романі дуже яскравий і набагато складніший за образ Айвенго. Образ Буагільбера дуже суперечливий, тому герой вийшов  яскравим і живим. Хоча храмовник Буагільбера є негативним персонажем твору, у нього є не тільки негативні риси.

Буагільбер – сувора, тверда людина, часто буває і грубим, і жорстоким. Потім, коли  закохується в Ревеку, він розкривається як дуже пристрасна людина. У його душі іде запекла внутрiшня боротьба. Бріан де Буагільбера готовий заради своєï пристрастi вiдмовитися вiд свого iменi, титулу, знеславити себе. Під час турнiру, на якому вирiшується, чи буде жити Ревека, вiн вмирає вiд переживань.
