Aristotle: A Brief Biography
Aristotle was a Greek philosopher and polymath who lived from 384 to 322 BCE. He was born in the city of Stagira in northern Greece and was the son of Nicomachus, who was the personal physician to the king of Macedonia. Aristotle's early education was influenced by his father's profession, and he developed an interest in biology and natural sciences.
At the age of 17, Aristotle moved to Athens to study at Plato's Academy, where he became one of Plato's most promising students. He studied under Plato for nearly 20 years and was deeply influenced by his mentor's philosophy. However, Aristotle eventually developed his own ideas and theories, which sometimes diverged from Plato's teachings.
After Plato's death, Aristotle left Athens and spent several years traveling and conducting research. He was invited by King Philip II of Macedonia to tutor his son, Alexander the Great, who would later become one of the most famous military leaders in history. Aristotle taught Alexander for several years and had a significant impact on his intellectual development.
In 335 BCE, Aristotle returned to Athens and established his own school, known as the Lyceum. The Lyceum became a center for learning and research, and Aristotle
