 По рассказам русских современников, он был сухощав и очень высок, хорошего телосложения, с широкой грудью. Что касается черт лица, то  по свидетельствам современников, Иван Грозный  имел длинный, выгнутый нос, небольшие, но живые глаза голубого цвета, с проницательным взглядом. Он носил большие усы и густую рыжеватую бороду, которая заметно поседела к концу его царствования. Голову свою он брил.  Многие летописцы отмечают мрачное, угрюмое выражение лица Ивана Грозного.

Иоанн Васильевич не шутил. Вообще шутить – не царское дело. Для того при дворе содержаться десятки шутов. Правда, некоторые из них поплатились жизнью.
