Адже уперше і востаннє було застосовано ядерну зброю, здійснено найтяжчі військові злочини та злочини проти людяності. Внаслідок бойових дій, репресій проти військовополонених і цивільного населення, а також голоду, хвороб та виснаження загинуло від 70 до 80 млн осіб, дві третини з яких – цивільні. Для України та українського народу віха Другої світової війни є особливо знаковою і болісною. Саме в контексті вивчення цього досвіду і варто говорити про Другу світову війну та її наслідки, не вдаючись у «переможну» риторику, а шануючи пам'ять полеглих.
Цьогоріч 8 травня відзначаємо День пам’яті та примирення, а 9 травня –75-ту річницю перемоги над нацизмом у Другій Світовій війні.
