Путешествия Марко Поло. В нашем списке этот исследователь является самым ранним. Но именно он вдохновил многих своих последователей на новые географические открытия. В 1291 году хан выдал одну из своих принцесс замуж за персидского ильхана, а семейству Поло разрешил сопровождать делегацию. Итальянцы побыли на Суматре и Цейлоне и через Иран, и Черное море вернулись в Венецию. Дальнейшая история жизни исследователя известна мало.
