Present Simple: All Forms
The Present Simple tense in English is used to describe general truths, habitual actions, and regular occurrences. It is formed differently depending on the subject pronoun used. Here are the different forms of the Present Simple tense:
1. Positive Forms: - I/We/You/They + base form of the verb: I play tennis every Sunday. - He/She/It + base form of the verb + -s/-es: She watches TV in the evening.
2. Negative Forms: - I/We/You/They + do not (don't) + base form of the verb: I don't like coffee. - He/She/It + does not (doesn't) + base form of the verb: She doesn't eat meat.
3. Question Forms: - Do + I/We/You/They + base form of the verb + ?: Do you speak French? - Does + He/She/It + base form of the verb + ?: Does he live in New York?
Here are some examples using the different forms:
- Positive: I am a student. My brothers are drivers. Her garden is beautiful. - Negative: I am not a lawyer. We are not travelers. He is not my husband. - Question: Am I late? Are you coming to the party? Is she ready?
Please note that irregular verbs have different forms in the Present Simple tense. For example, the verb "to be" has the following forms: - I am - He/She/It is - We/You/They are
These forms are used to describe states, characteristics, and permanent situations.
