Они перешли реку Тей, надеясь захватить шотландцев внезапно, а чтобы их шаги не услышали, скандинавы сняли обувь и крались почти бесшумно. Но один из викингов наступил на чертополох, внезапная и резкая боль заставила его закричать. Этот крик стал сигналом тревоги для шотландцев, которые победили в честном бою. В благодарность за помощь, которую оказал им чертополох, шотландцы выбрали это растение своей национальной эмблемой.
