Task: Subjunctive Mood

To complete the task, we need to rewrite the sentences using the subjunctive mood. The subjunctive mood is used to express wishes, desires, hypothetical situations, or actions that are contrary to reality. In English, the subjunctive mood is often formed using the base form of the verb (without the -s or -es ending).

Let's rewrite the sentences using the subjunctive mood:

1. I wish it were summer now, and we had holidays. 2. I wish I were with you then. I would have helped you. 3. I wish he had not come to the conference so early yesterday. He was in everybody's way. 4. I wish I were not late. We are sure to miss our bus now. 5. I wish my parents would buy a country house. Then we would be able to spend our weekends there. But we have nowhere to go now. 6. I wish I had not stayed in Moscow last July. The weather was very oppressive. 7. I wish I had watched this film. Then I would be able to tell you what I think about the plot. 8. I wish it were not so cold outside. We would be able to go for a walk then. 9. I wish he would not leave Moscow for St. Petersburg now. I would like to see him from time to time. 10. I wish he had not left Moscow for St. Petersburg last year. I never see him now.

Please note that the subjunctive mood is not as common in English as it used to be. In many cases, the indicative mood (regular verb forms) is used instead. However, for expressing wishes and hypothetical situations, the subjunctive mood is still used.
