People are at their most vulnerable stage during their pre teen and teenage years. During their first few years, children are learning and exploring the world but it isn’t until they start thinking for themselves that social and psychological factors or stresses are endured. It is at this time (ages 10-18) that children start losing interest in sport activities. It is like everything in life, if you do not feel comfortable at a new job because you are constantly being yelled at and blamed for everything you do, and it’s your first week, you are obviously going to think of quitting because the working conditions are too stressful and not worth it because in your mind your thinking you could just do something else (a kid shifting attention from activity to video games).

Kids must feel comfortable and it starts with the surrounding and knowledgeable personal. The environment must be lose and relaxed so that kids could focus on the activities, and not the people screaming and yelling about how the kids are not doing things properly. If a kid misses the ball, people should understand that the child probably feels bad already, but is motivated enough to keep trying. It is not until other factors such as pressure, stresses, and competition, are included, that the same child will lose motivation. It is not about getting better, there is a shift from development to competition, therefore the low skilled kids become a liability winning, and usually are left out until the game is blown out.

Motivation and fun are crucial in the development of health and fitness activities for children. When those two factors are tweaked or changed in form of competition and pressure, some kids will quit because of the shift in responsibility. Character is established before kids start little leagues and it is not the activities that build character.
