Elspeth Beard, the famous architect, owns a remarkable house located in the south of England near Surrey. Her house is quite unconventional as it is housed within a 130-foot-tall water tower that has stood for a century. This tower comprises six floors, each serving different purposes.
The ground floor of the tower houses a reception room, providing an inviting space for guests or gatherings. Moving up, the bedrooms are spread across the first, second, and third floors, each equipped with its own bathroom, ensuring privacy and convenience for the occupants.
Surprisingly, the kitchen is situated on the fourth floor, while the living room occupies the fifth floor. This arrangement might seem unconventional, but it offers unique perspectives and probably stunning views from the elevated positions within the tower.
Accessing each level involves climbing a considerable number of steps. To reach the roof, one would need to climb 142 steps, while 88 steps lead to the kitchen and 113 steps to the living room. This absence of an elevator might be seen as a downside, but it doubles as a great way to maintain fitness, considering the regular exercise required to traverse the tower's height.
Living in a tall structure like this water tower certainly has its unique charms and challenges. The breathtaking views and the architectural uniqueness would be appealing, but the constant stair-climbing is indeed the price one pays for living at such heights.
