What I like best is a book that’s at least funny. I read a lot of classical books, like the return
of the native by thomas hardy and I like them, and I read a lot of war books and mysteries and all, but im not mda about theme too much. What really impresses me is a book that, when you have read it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn’t happen much, though.I wouldn’t mind calling this Isak Dinesen up. And Ring Lardner. You take that book Of Human Bondage, by Somerset Maugham, though. I read it last summer. It’s a pretty good book and all, but I wouldn’t want to call Somerset Maugham up. I don’t know, He just isn’t the kind of guy I’d want to call up, that’s all. I’d rather call old Thomas Hardy up.

What I like best is a book that's funny and entertaining. While I enjoy reading classical books like "The Return of the Native" by Thomas Hardy, as well as war books and mysteries, I'm not particularly obsessed with a specific theme. What really impresses me is a book that, after reading it, makes me wish that the author was a close friend of mine whom I could call whenever I wanted. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen often.
There are a few authors whom I wouldn't mind calling up, such as Isak Dinesen and Ring Lardner. They have a certain charm and wit in their writing that makes me feel like we would have great conversations. However, there are authors like Somerset Maugham, who wrote "Of Human Bondage," that I wouldn't feel inclined to call. It's not that his book isn't good; it's just that he doesn't strike me as the kind of person I would want to have a personal connection with. In contrast, I would much rather call up old Thomas Hardy, as his writing resonates with me on a deeper level.
I hope this revised text captures the essence of what you were trying to convey. Let me know if there's anything else I can assist you with!
