Aslenica is one of the ancient folk festivals, which is not fixed by a specific calendar number. It is a farewell party with the winter and a meeting of spring.
For the Slavs, Maslenitsa was also the meeting of the New Year, tk. In Russia (before the XIV century) the year began in March. It was believed that as a year you will meet, so you will spend it. Therefore, celebrated it broadly and cheerfully, they called Pancake week - "honest", "broad", "gluttony."
According to the legend, Maslenitsa was born in the North, her father was Moroz. Once, at the most severe and sad time of the year, a man noticed her, hiding behind huge snowdrifts, and called to help people, to warm and cheer them up. And the carnival came, but not the fragile girl that hid in the woods, but a healthy woman with fat cheeks, cunning eyes, not with a smile on her lips, but with laughter. She forced a man to forget about winter, warmed up the frozen blood, grabbed her hands and started to dance.

Russian holidays are vibrant and filled with rich traditions. One such holiday is Maslenitsa, also known as Pancake Week or Butter Week. It is a joyful celebration that marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring. During Maslenitsa, people gather with their families and friends to indulge in delicious pancakes, which are a symbol of the sun and warmth. The festivities include various activities like sledding, snowball fights, and traditional folk dances. Another significant Russian holiday is Victory Day, commemorated on May 9th, which marks the end of World War II. On this day, people pay tribute to the veterans and fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country. The celebrations include parades, fireworks, and concerts. Another popular holiday is New Year's Eve, which is widely celebrated with great enthusiasm. People decorate their homes, exchange gifts, and enjoy a festive meal with their loved ones. The highlight of the evening is watching the President's New Year's address and the fireworks display. Christmas is also an important holiday in Russia, celebrated on January 7th according to the Orthodox calendar. People attend church services, exchange gifts, and enjoy traditional Russian dishes like kutya and borsch. Easter is another significant holiday, celebrated with religious processions, beautifully decorated eggs, and feasting on paskha - a sweet cheese dessert. These are just a few examples of the vibrant and diverse holidays celebrated in Russia, each carrying its own unique significance and traditions.
