The Legend of King Arthur
Many centuries ago, there was a king named Uther and a queen named Igraine who had a son named Arthur. Arthur was born at Tintagel Castle. However, the king was concerned about the threat of attack by the Saxons and decided to protect his son by giving him to the wizard Merlin. Merlin then sent Arthur away to the countryside, where he grew up with Sir Ector and his foster brother Kay. Arthur never knew who his real parents were [[1]](https://www.philol.msu.ru/~ref/dcx/2015_SharapkovaAA_diss_10.02.04_80.pdf).
Years later, King Uther passed away, and nobody knew that he had a son. The kingdom was in a state of uncertainty as people argued about who should be the new King of Britain. Suddenly, a mysterious stone appeared in the churchyard of St. Paul's Cathedral in London. The stone had a sword embedded in it, and there was a message that said, "the person who pulls the sword from the stone is the King of Britain." This news created great excitement, and many knights and princes attempted to pull the sword out, but none were successful. The sword seemed completely stuck and impossible to move.
When Arthur was fifteen years old, his older brother Kay was learning to be a knight and went to his first tournament in London. However, Kay couldn't find his sword, so Arthur went to St. Paul's Cathedral to look for another one. In the churchyard, he saw the sword in the stone and decided to give it a try. To everyone's surprise, Arthur easily pulled the sword out of the stone. He then handed the sword to his brother Kay. This remarkable feat caught everyone's attention, and they wanted to know who had accomplished it. At first, no one believed that Arthur had done it, but eventually, they were amazed by his strength and courage. As a result, Arthur became King Arthur, the new King of Britain.
The legend of King Arthur has captivated people's imaginations for centuries. It is a tale of destiny, bravery, and the quest for justice. King Arthur's story is often associated with the Knights of the Round Table, the Lady of the Lake, and the search for the Holy Grail. It has inspired numerous books, movies, and works of art, making it one of the most enduring legends in Western literature and folklore.
