My name is Catherine. I am fourteen years old. New Year is considered the most popular holiday in our family. At the beginning of December everybody has a festive mood. In the city the streets and shop windows are decorated with bright and motley garlands. A huge Christmas tree is put at the main square. We begin to prepare for the holiday. We buy Christmas-tree decorations, tinsel and gifts for each other at New Year’s fairs.

At the end of December we put artificial Christmas tree and decorate it for the holiday. I help my mother to prepare a festive table on December 31. New Year’s Eve always seems to me magical and unforgettable. At midnight after president’s appearance on television chiming clock begins to strike. We wish each other a happy New Year and make a wish and then exchange gifts. When I was a child I found the gifts under the Christmas tree and I thought that Santa Claus had brought them.

Although I’m already adult and I don’t believe that Santa Claus exists, on New Year’s Eve I want to find myself in the dream and to believe in a miracle.

Title: A New Year's Surprise

Once upon a time, in a small town nestled in the snowy mountains, the anticipation for the upcoming New Year's Eve was palpable. The townspeople were buzzing with excitement as they prepared for the grand celebration that would mark the beginning of a new year.

In the heart of the town, there lived a young girl named Lily. She was a dreamer, always finding joy in the simplest of things. She loved the magic of the holiday season, and New Year's Eve held a special place in her heart. She couldn't wait to see what surprises the new year would bring.

As the sun set on the last day of the year, the town square transformed into a winter wonderland. Decorations adorned every corner, sparkling lights danced in the trees, and the air was filled with the scent of hot cocoa and freshly baked cookies.

Lily, bundled up in her warmest coat and scarf, made her way to the town square with her family. The square was bustling with laughter and excitement as people gathered to watch the magnificent firework display that would light up the sky at midnight.

But as the clock ticked closer to midnight, an unexpected snowstorm began to brew. The wind howled, and thick snowflakes fell from the sky, covering everything in a soft white blanket. The townspeople huddled together, seeking shelter from the storm.

Lily's heart sank as she realized that the fireworks might be canceled due to the harsh weather. She couldn't bear the thought of starting the new year without the magical display she had been looking forward to.

Determined not to let the storm ruin the celebration, Lily sprang into action. She ran home and gathered all the spare Christmas lights she could find. With the help of her family and friends, she strung the lights from tree to tree, creating a mesmerizing canopy of twinkling colors.

As the clock struck midnight, the townspeople gathered under the glowing lights, their faces lit up with joy and wonder. Lily's creation had transformed the town square into a magical winter paradise.

Just as the last chime of the clock faded away, the storm suddenly ceased, and the clouds parted to reveal a sky filled with stars. The townspeople gasped in awe as a burst of fireworks exploded overhead, painting the night sky with vibrant colors.

Lily smiled, her heart overflowing with happiness. Not only had she saved the celebration, but she had also created an unforgettable moment for everyone in the town. The new year had begun with a bang, and Lily knew deep in her heart that it would be a year full of magic, surprises, and endless possibilities.

And so, as the townspeople danced and laughed beneath the sparkling lights, they welcomed the new year with open arms, grateful for the gift of community and the joy that Lily had brought to their lives.

From that day forward, the townspeople fondly remembered the New Year's Eve when Lily's creativity and determination had turned a stormy night into a night of wonder and enchantment. It became a cherished tradition to decorate the town square with lights, symbolizing the power of hope and the magic of the holiday season.

And as each new year arrived, the town square would once again be transformed into a magical wonderland, reminding everyone of the little girl who had taught them the true meaning of the New Year's spirit.
