Dirhams became very popular in Ancient Rus, they were used as a means of payment, they were worn as decorations and remelted. On them, merchants bought furs, very valued in the Muslim East, slaves, honey and other goods. Close ties with the Byzantine Empire contributed to acquaintance of the population of Russia with its gold (solid), silver (milyarisiyami) and copper (follis) coins. From the second half of the tenth century silver denarii from the countries of Western Europe began to arrive.
