The role of nature in human's life

In the age of computation, there is nothing easier than to forget how much people need nature to function well. Indeed, today, we live in large cities surrounded by all sorts of gadgets and machines, as far away from nature as possible. However, the very idea that humankind can exist without nature seems ridiculous to say the least. In my opinion, despite all technological progress that has been made, we still heavily depend on nature, and our whole lifestyle is defined by it.

Since ancient times, people have been learning to adapt to different natural conditions. Climate and geographical position had a great impact on our ancestors' appearance, activities, traditions and even behaviour, which affected the way we act and look like now. However, even nowadays, our beliefs are significantly influenced by nature and environmental conditions in particular. As research carried out by J.S. Bentzen demonstrated, people usually become more religious in the aftermath of an earthquake; also there is a higher percentage of those who believe in God in earthquake-risk zones.

Our physical and economic well-being is also dependent on natural resources. What we eat, drink and wear is initially taken from nature; our homes are heated and electrified by burning fossil fuels; most means of transport need oil, coal and natural gas in order to work, and they are made of natural resources too - and this list is endless. A lot of people take these things for granted and do not realise how much we owe to our planet.

Claude Monet once wrote, "The richness I achieve comes from nature, the source of my inspiration," and I believe that there is hardly anyone who does not share his opinion. Many famous people spoke of the beauty of nature and its positive effect on our mental health and general well-being. Today, doctors and psychologists recommend nature therapy to solve psychological problems and boost happiness; also, various studies show that spending time in green and blue spaces decreases levels of stress and anxiety, as well as helps those who have depression.

Nature is the source of everything. Our wellness, both mental and physical, and the way we live and act are the result of all things nature gives to us and its processes, good or bad. For us, it is simply impossible to exist without nature, and that is why it plays such a significant role in human's life.
