Toktar Aubakirov was born in Karaganda, Kazakhstan, on the 27th of July in 1946.  After graduating from the 8th grade of a secondary school he went to study at an evening school and started working as a metal turner at the Temirtau foundry. In 1965 he joined the Armavir Military Aviation Institute of the Anti-Air Defence Pilots.

Toktar Aubakirov served as a fighter pilot in the Soviet Air Force and then he became a test pilot. He tested over 50 types of aircraft. He was the first in the Soviet Union to make a nonstop flight crossing the North Pole. In 1991 he flew to the space where he spent over eight days.

I believe Toktar Aubakirov is a truly remarkable person and I deeply respect him. He is a hero who has always done his job well and managed to make his dreams come true.
