2. The first animal to orbit the Earth was a dog named "Laika." Laika was a Soviet space dog that was sent into orbit aboard Sputnik 2 on November 3, 1957.

3. The first man to fly into space was Yuri Gagarin, a Soviet cosmonaut. He made his historic spaceflight on April 12, 1961, aboard the Vostok 1 spacecraft.

4. The first woman to fly into space was Valentina Tereshkova, also a Soviet cosmonaut. She orbited the Earth aboard the Vostok 6 spacecraft on June 16, 1963.

5. The first man to leave a spaceship for a spacewalk, or extravehicular activity (EVA), was Alexei Leonov, a Soviet cosmonaut. He performed the first-ever spacewalk on March 18, 1965, during the Voskhod 2 mission.
