Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is my favorite festival. "The Festival of Lights" is another name for it. Hindus in India and the Indian Diaspora commemorate it in October or November. It dates back more than 2,500 years.
This occasion is associated to a number of stories. One legend from northern India tells of the mighty King Rama, one of the Hindu god Vishnu's avatars. Rama returned to his country after fourteen years of exile, conquering the evil demon Ravana, who kidnapped his wife, Sita, according to the Ramayana, an ancient epic. When he arrived in Ayodhya, his kingdom, people greeted him by lighting diyas, or oil lights. The Hindu god Krishna is said to have saved sixteen thousand women from slavery in a classic narrative from southern India. Narakasura is a tyrant king. Both stories end with good triumphing over evil. Diwali is also a festival dedicated to the goddess Lakshmi.
On Diwali day, I like to go to the temple and pray to Mother Lakshmi. For peace, prosperity, and money, we pray to Goddess Lakshmi. I also dress in new Indian outfits, such as men's kurtas and women's saris.

One of my favorite celebrations in my country is Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights. Diwali is a widely celebrated Hindu festival that takes place in various parts of India and among Indian communities around the world. It typically falls in October or November, depending on the lunar calendar.
Diwali is a vibrant and joyous celebration that lasts for five days. During this time, people decorate their homes with oil lamps, candles, and colorful rangoli patterns. The atmosphere is filled with excitement and positivity as families come together to celebrate the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.
Traditional clothing plays a significant role in Diwali celebrations. People often wear beautiful and elegant outfits, such as sarees for women and kurta-pajamas for men. These outfits are usually colorful and embellished with intricate designs and embroidery.
Food is a central part of Diwali celebrations. Families prepare a wide variety of sweets and savory snacks, such as ladoos, jalebis, samosas, and more. Sharing these delicious treats with friends and neighbors is a common practice during Diwali.
One of the most exciting aspects of Diwali is the bursting of fireworks and firecrackers. The night skies are illuminated with dazzling displays of lights, and the sound of crackers fills the air. It's a mesmerizing sight that adds to the festive spirit.
Personally, I love the sense of togetherness that Diwali brings. Families and friends gather to exchange gifts, share meals, and light diyas (oil lamps) together. It's a time for reconnecting with loved ones and strengthening bonds.
However, the excessive use of firecrackers during Diwali can be detrimental to the environment and can cause air pollution. This is something I don't particularly like about the celebration, and I believe there should be more emphasis on eco-friendly Diwali celebrations.
In conclusion, Diwali is a celebration that holds a special place in my heart. It's a time of warmth, love, and spirituality, where the entire nation comes alive with lights and colors. While there are some aspects that could be improved, I believe it's a beautiful festival that brings people closer and spreads happiness and positivity.
