Blanford," he introduced himself, "and you must be Miss Maynell. I'm truly glad to finally meet you. May I have the pleasure of taking you to dinner?"

I couldn't help but smile tolerantly at the young man's request. "I must admit, son, I'm not entirely sure what all of this is about," I replied. "Earlier, a young woman in a lovely green suit passed by and handed me a rose, saying that if you were to ask me out, I should inform you that she's waiting for you in the restaurant across the street. She mentioned something about it being a test."

As I spoke, I could see a mix of surprise and amusement flicker across his face. It seemed that he had been set up for some sort of challenge, and I found the whole situation rather endearing. Nonetheless, I wanted to ease his worries.

"You know," I continued, "I don't believe in playing games, and I certainly won't stand in the way of any plans you might have had with this other young woman. However, if you'd still like to share a meal together, I'd be more than happy to accept your invitation."
