Zaporozhye is an industrial center of Ukraine and an environmental disaster zone.

Zaporozhye in terms of industrial potential closes the top five largest industrial centers in Ukraine. Along with the powerful enterprises of ferrous metallurgy - "Zaporizhstal", "Dneprospetsstal", we have the largest enterprises of non - ferrous metallurgy-Zaporozhye Titanium and Magnesium plant and Dnipro aluminum plant, chemical industry - plants" silicipolymer", artificial leather, machine-building complex" AvtoZAZ", engine-building plant. The largest hydroelectric power station of the Dnipro cascade - the DneproGES-was built in the Zaporozhye region on the Dnipro river.

Unfortunately, our native Zaporozhye is among the leaders among cities with the worst ecology.

Nature is the only and permanent source of material and spiritual benefits. Constantly using this source, people did not even want to think that it would ever be exhausted, but today it has become clear that without a radical solution to the urgent problems, it is impossible to ensure the further development of the economy. The main environmental pollutants are thermal power plants, metallurgical and chemical industries, and utilities.

The city is located on both banks of the Dnieper. The development of Zaporozhye, developed in such a way that large industrial enterprises were in close proximity to residential development. Many residential buildings are located within the sanitary protection zones of industrial enterprises. A dark purple haze of smog constantly hangs over Zaporozhye, formed by the emissions of industrial enterprises concentrated in a relatively small space. This is facilitated by the terrain, which is a wavy plain, cut by a gully-beam network with a height difference of up to 100 m, which worsens the airability of the territory and the conditions for dispersion of dust and gas emissions. Our city is also among the most polluted cities in the world.(

Despite the duration of the study of this problem, the utilization and processing of industrial waste is not carried out at the proper level.

If there is a way out of this situation? Yes, there is still one. It is necessary to learn to understand the laws of nature and to reckon with them. There is nothing infinite in nature, everything is expedient and interconnected.

 Installation of cleaning devices, gas and dust traps is very expensive, not all plants can afford to buy them, or find funds for the reconstruction of existing installations. We need to use low-waste and non-waste technology, use environmentally-friendly fuels in road transport it is important to improve the quality of fuel and engines, greater use of diesel engines etc. In many enterprises, up to 90% of dust and gases are captured by one method or another.
