The term "wiki" comes from the Hawaiian word "wikiwiki," which means "quick" or "fast." The term was popularized by Ward Cunningham, an American computer programmer, when he developed the first-ever wiki software called "WikiWikiWeb" in 1994. Cunningham named it so because he wanted to create a platform where people could collaboratively and quickly edit and update content.
The concept of a wiki involves a website that allows multiple users to easily add, edit, and organize content through a web browser interface. This collaborative approach to content creation and editing has since been widely adopted for various purposes, such as knowledge sharing, documentation, and online collaboration. Wikipedia, the well-known online encyclopedia, is one of the most prominent examples of a wiki-based project.
