The Hermitage Museum is one of the world’s greatest art galleries. The rich collection of the Hermitage attracting very many people since it opened to the public. 2 500 000 exhibits are displaing in the Museum’s halls and galleries. If somebody wants to look for a minute at each exhibit it will take him 12 years to see all of them.
When the Director of the Hermitage asked how the Museum got such a big collection, he answered: “The history of our Museum began in 1764 when 225 paintings purchased in the West by Catherine the Great. The collection grew in size from year to year since then. After the revolution a lot of splendid pieces of art came to the Museum from private collections”.
