Water covers over 70% of the Earth’s surface. It is very important resource for people and the environment. One of the most urgent problems of today’s life is pollution and especially water pollution. A lot of people can’t drink water from the rivers they live at or use tap water, because most of seas and rivers are used as dumps for industrial and nuclear wastes. These substances are harmful for life beings.

This results in water poisoning, which kills fish and sea animals. When animals eat other animals that are already poisoned, the chemicals are passed up through the food chain and become even more harmful. Moreover this poisoned fish can be eaten by people and cause various diseases. Water pollution destroys ecosystems.

Subject: Urgent Action Needed to Address Water Pollution

Dear [Recipient's Name],

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to bring to your attention the pressing issue of water pollution that is affecting our community and environment. As a concerned citizen, I believe it is crucial to raise awareness and take immediate action to mitigate the detrimental effects of water pollution.

Water pollution has reached alarming levels in our region, primarily due to industrial activities, improper waste disposal, and the excessive use of harmful chemicals. The consequences of this pollution are manifold and pose significant threats to aquatic life, public health, and the overall ecosystem.

Firstly, the contamination of our water sources has devastating impacts on aquatic organisms. Fish, marine mammals, and other aquatic species suffer from reduced oxygen levels, toxic chemicals, and the accumulation of pollutants in their bodies. This disrupts the delicate balance of aquatic ecosystems, leading to the decline of various species and the destruction of their habitats.

Furthermore, the pollution of our drinking water sources jeopardizes public health. The consumption of contaminated water can lead to severe illnesses, including gastrointestinal problems, respiratory issues, and even chronic diseases. Vulnerable populations, such as children and the elderly, are particularly at risk.

Additionally, water pollution adversely affects recreational activities and tourism in our area. Contaminated water bodies are unsafe for swimming, boating, or other water-based leisure pursuits. This not only impacts the quality of life for residents but also hampers the economic growth potential of our community, as tourism and related businesses suffer.

To address this critical issue, I strongly urge you to consider the following actions:

  1. Enforce strict regulations: Strengthen the enforcement of existing laws and regulations pertaining to industrial waste disposal, chemical usage, and water treatment. Implement stringent penalties for non-compliance to discourage polluting practices.

  2. Promote sustainable practices: Encourage industries and businesses to adopt environmentally friendly technologies and practices. Provide incentives for the implementation of cleaner production methods and the use of non-toxic alternatives.

  3. Improve wastewater treatment facilities: Invest in the upgrading and expansion of wastewater treatment plants to ensure effective removal of pollutants before water is released back into natural water bodies.

  4. Raise public awareness: Launch comprehensive awareness campaigns to educate the public about the importance of clean water, proper waste disposal, and individual responsibility in preventing water pollution. Engage schools, community organizations, and the media to maximize the reach of these campaigns.

  5. Foster collaboration: Establish partnerships between government agencies, local communities, and environmental organizations to develop and implement strategies for water pollution prevention and mitigation. Encourage information sharing and cooperation to address this issue collectively.

It is essential to act swiftly to protect our water resources and preserve the well-being of our community. By taking decisive steps to combat water pollution, we can ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for future generations.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I trust that you will give due consideration to the urgent action needed to address water pollution in our region. Together, we can make a difference and safeguard our precious water resources.

Yours sincerely,
