Hello Moira
Thank you for your letter. I enjoy reading it. Sorry, I did not answer at once. I was very busy with my routine.
In your letter, you asked me about our national cuisine and my preferences.
I do not like cooking. I think it is not my thing as I usually spoil food instead of making something tasty. I think the traditional Russian meal is pelmeny. Even though it originated in Syberia, all Russian people love it. Some have a family tradition to gather together in the kitchen to make pelmeny. People make pelmeny using dough and stuffing its small pieces with grounded meat; then, they boil them for 7-10 minutes.
Actually, not all Russian people eat borsch and kasha every day because the variety of tasty food is significant. Since borsch and kasha ingredients are widely available and relatively cheap, many families have to eat them because of low economic status.
How often do you visit your grandparents? What do you usually do together? Are there any sights in Brighton?
Well, I'd better go now as I have to do my homework.
I am looking forward to your new letter.
Your pen-friend,
NAME

Dear Moira,
I was delighted to receive your letter and hear about your successful cooking experience with Irish stew! It's wonderful to see your passion for cooking and your aspirations to make it your profession. I believe with dedication and practice, you can definitely achieve your dream.
To answer your question, I do enjoy cooking as well. I find it not only a creative outlet but also a way to express my love for food and bring joy to others. One of my favorite dishes to prepare is lasagna. I love the process of layering the pasta, sauce, and cheese, and the aroma that fills the kitchen while it bakes. It's always a hit with my family and friends.
Now, let me tell you about Russian traditional meals. Yes, borsch and kasha are indeed popular dishes in Russia, but they are not consumed every day. Borsch is a hearty soup made with beets, cabbage, potatoes, and other vegetables, often served with a dollop of sour cream. Kasha, on the other hand, refers to various porridge dishes made from different grains like buckwheat, rice, or oats. Russians do enjoy these dishes, especially during colder months, but our cuisine is much more diverse. We have a wide range of soups, stews, dumplings, and various meat and fish dishes that are integral to our traditional cuisine.
I'm glad to hear that you're going to visit your grandparents in Brighton next week. Family gatherings are always special and a great opportunity to spend quality time together. Speaking of your grandparents, I'd love to know more about them. Here are three questions for you to ask them:
- How did they meet and fall in love?
- Do they have any interesting family traditions that have been passed down through generations?
- Have they ever shared any memorable stories from their childhood or early adulthood?
I hope you have a fantastic time with your grandparents in Brighton. Take care and write to me soon!
Warmest regards, [Your Name]
