Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin is considered one of the greatest Russian poets and the founder of modern Russian literature. He was born on June 6, 1799, in Moscow, into a noble family. His father, Sergei Pushkin, was a retired military officer, and his mother, Nadezhda Gannibal, was the granddaughter of the Abyssinian prince, Hannibal, who was brought to Russia as a slave.

Pushkin started writing poetry at an early age, and his talent was recognized by his teachers. He graduated from the Imperial Lyceum in Tsarskoye Selo in 1817 and began his literary career with the publication of his poem "Ruslan and Ludmila" in 1820.

In 1826, Pushkin was exiled to his family estate in the southern part of Russia for his political views and his satirical writing. It was during this time that he wrote some of his most famous works, including the novel in verse "Eugene Onegin" and the drama "Boris Godunov."

Pushkin married Natalia Goncharova in 1831, and they had four children. He continued to write prolifically and was widely regarded as a literary genius. However, his life was cut short when he was fatally wounded in a duel with a French officer who was rumored to be having an affair with his wife. He died on February 10, 1837, at the age of 37, and was buried in the Svyatogorsky Monastery in St. Petersburg.
