She told me she wanted to cancel her two o'clock appointment because her husband was ill and she had to take care of him. I told her I was very sorry to hear that, but she still had the wrong number. Then she wanted to know if the appointment could be made for next week. I told her it could not be arranged as I was not Dr. Cooper's secretary. Finally, she heard what I said. She wanted to know why she was not told right away that she had the wrong number. Before I could answer her, she rang off. At first, I was a little upset about it, but later on in the evening, I decided it was really quite funny. I wanted to try my sister and tell her about it. It so happened that I dialed the wrong number. And by a fantastic coincidence, it happened to be Mrs. Mills. You can imagine how much I was astonished. I tried to explain that I made a mistake, but she would not listen. She just wanted to know how I got her telephone number. She said she could not understand why I bothered her. I tried to explain again, but she talked so much and so fast that I could not interrupt her even to say that I was sorry. Finally, I hung up.
